What is happening? In 2026, the FAA and PSI will introduce Automatic Item Generation (AIG) in aviation training programs. With this new integration, the written test supplements, which include books that contain example charts and publications, will be phased out. This transition allows the FAA to administer computer-generated questions on supplemental items that flight training students may have never seen before, and that no one will ever see again. AIG will start with the IRA (Instrument Written) and will be integrated into more exams in the future.
How does this effect me?
What can you do? Well, the academic curve in aviation training is starting to get steeper, especially in flight training Florida. We need to get you ahead of that curve. The best way to do that is to study the material rather than just focusing on questions and answers. With AIG, the popular rote memorization tools you know and love will become obsolete.
